Featuring a tour of our newly implemented year-round frost-free water infrastructure for grazing with Russ Wilson from Wilson Land & Cattle
In October 2025, we partnered with Berkshire Agricultural Ventures to host an informational tour for farmers highlighting our newly implemented year-round frost-free water infrastructure for cattle on our new farm. Director of Farm Operations, Phil Haynes hosted the tour with Russ Wilson of Wilson Land & Cattle, a 220-acre farm in Northwest Pennsylvania. Wilson consulted on the development of infrastructure on a 40-acre parcel on our new farm to support our grazing operation; adding fencing and electrical, blazing a road, digging a well and implementing frost-free water infrastructure to allow our livestock to stay on pasture throughout the winter months, rather than overwintering in our barns. Keeping cattle moving in the winter months is important for maintaining a healthier herd and is more in line with their biological needs. With more than 40 years of practical experience in agriculture, Wilson generously shared how proper forage management and species diversity can pay dividends for livestock production and soil health. Joined by more than 30 local farmers, as well as representatives from Claverack Well & Pump, Robert Bradway's Plumbing & Heating Inc, Berlinghoff Electric, all local companies that helped us plan for, envision, and implement our infrastructure, it was an educational day centered around collective innovation and community information sharing.
