On July 30th, Sky High Farm hosted over 30 teens from Kingston YMCA Farm Project, Kite’s Nest, and North East Community Center for a celebration of food, farming and herbalism.
Phil Haynes, SHF’s Director of Farm Operations, kicked the day off with a tour around the farm to introduce everyone to our work, mission, and the land. The crew then joined Ellie Youngblood and the vegetable team to help harvest onions and carrots before taking a break from the heat to enjoy a group lunch. Antonia Pérez of Herban Cura led an introductory herbalism workshop featuring Calendula, Mint, Chicory, Rose, Queen Anne’s Lace, Mugwort, Marigold, Papalo and Tulsi sourced from Sky High Farm. Given the space to breathe and think deeply about how they were feeling and what they were needing, the group was provided with a potent combination of herbal knowledge and healing practices that they will always be able to call upon.
