Hungry Monk Visit

Father Mike, founder of Monkwrox, and over 40 volunteers came to visit Sky High Farm all the way from Queens.

Monkworx has been one of Sky High Farm’s food access partners since 2022. Each month, we deliver produce to their base at All Saints American Old Catholic Community Church in Ridgewood where it is distributed to approximately 35 families in their network. This year, families, volunteers, and supporters of their mission came up to the farm for a hands-on experience to learn more about our work. In a group with an age range of 6 to 86 years old, we facilitated a day of activities where everyone could get their hands dirty and learn something new:

In the greenhouse, visitors planted seedlings of marzeh, basil, cilantro, and dill that they took home to grow on their windowsills. Some folks snipped a little mint to propagate and transplant into pots back in the city, too.

Up in the garden beds, volunteers were invited to help weed our eggplants as well as cut cosmos, zinnias, and other flowers around the farm to make bouquets for themselves or the pantry visitors back home.

At the pavilion, there was an arts and crafts station where everyone could help paint signs for our native perennial garden or create art pieces that reflected the landscape.
