I started growing food in community gardens. NYC's community gardeners have taught me so much about loving the land and its inhabitants wherever you are. From Riis beach, to the Bronx River, to the garden groups fighting for their autonomy. Whichever direction you look there is a creative struggle to grow a relationship to the land that's rooted in solidarity and reciprocity. We have a lot to learn with the land about breaking cages and borders.
